The third of my five Berry Brothers and Rudd (BBR) bottles I splurged on: a sherry-matured 13 year peated Glenturret (also known as Ruadh Maor).
I sure do love these heavily peated single cask Glenturrets - rich, woody, meaty, citric, smoky... big, bold drams. Even the scent left behind in the glass is thick and viscous. This bottle of 12 year old Glenturret was named by actor Neil Patrick Harris (!), one of three he named for the Scotch Malt Whisky Society ("SMWS").
I absolutely adored my last heavily peated Glenturret - another single cask bottling from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society ("SMWS") that was called "Confessions of a Barbecue" and absolutely reeked from bottom to top of scorched wood - pencil shavings, roasted splinters, ash, cinder, you name it. It was phenomenal. One of the single smokiest whiskies I've ever had, maybe the most. So when this bottle became available, I jumped all over it.
Another interesting selection from Glenturret, as released by the independent bottlers at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society ("SMWS")! This one is USA-exclusive, and was released for Father's Day 2021 (alongside a 23-year Glenrothes).
This is my first experience with Glenturret, a distillery fairly south in the Highlands. An independent bottle presented by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), this is peated, aged for 6 years in a re-charred hogshead and bottled at a very stiff 64.9%. Nicknamed "Cooking on a Rusty Grill." Let's see what I can find...
