Ardbeg Auriverdes (NAS)
Another great limited release by Ardbeg! This one is from 2014. Aged in charred American oak, and bottled at 49.9% - how does Gold and Green liquid fare?
Nose: Subtle, complex. White chocolate... and sweet vanilla, like flan or creme brulee. Rich shag tobacco. Ashes and rich peat. Cool apples? White grapes. Lime! And a very very prominent iodine note, maybe the strongest I've encountered in Ardbeg.
Mouthfeel: Medium.
Palate: Lime zest. Sweet chocolate or cocoa. Smoke and salt. Peppered bacon, glazed ham. Honey. Clotted cream. Dark chocolate. More medicinal iodine.
Finish: Short for Ardbeg. Milk chocolate, white pepper and oak. Peat and sooty smoke.
Verdict: This is subtle, delicious stuff. Unlike many Ardbeg offerings, this has a lot of little touches throughout, rather than a few big masterstrokes. Really worthwhile.
