This 50cl sample was a gift from my friend Rob Martin - praise be unto him - and welcome it was. This is now well known as Ralfy Mitchell's Whisky of the Year 2019 , and difficult to find anywhere. The distillery is, I think, owned by the reknown Billy Walker (of GlenDronach fame, among other things). Bottled at 46%, I don't have a clue about chill filtering or coloring.
Nose: Golden delicious apples, honey, light vanilla, perhaps some pear flesh. Opens up nicely with time in the glass.
Mouthfeel: On the thinner side, but no big deal.
Palate: Truly delicious apple notes here - all shades, from apple pie to cider, but mostly concentrating on green apple flesh. Honey and vanilla. Baking spices. Warm wood.
Finish: Baking spices, warming spices indeed, last a long time in the finish.
Verdict: This is delicious, pure stuff. Apples and honey for days, it's dangerously drinkable. Highly recommended! I will be seeking this one out for more.
