Glen Ord 8 Year (Exclusive Malts)

Exclusive Malts was an independent bottler that, sadly, no longer exists. One of their releases was known as the "Exclusive Region," where they released an unnamed single malt generally related to the main whisky regions of Scotland: Islay, Speyside, Highland, Peated Highland, Single Grain.

According to Whiskey Intelligence, the Speyside was Glentauchers, the Islay was Laphroaig, the Peated Highland was Ardmore, the Single Grain was Port Dundas, and ... based on other sources, the Highland is Glen Ord.

So this is Glen Ord, bottled at 50%, aged 8 years, unknown cask maturation (likely ex-bourbon), but likely uncolored and un-chill-filtered.

Nose: Malt, apple, peach, apricot, a nice floral fragrance. A lot of orange. Some cream. Some farm or barnyard flavors - hay, straw, earth. A nice nose.

Mouthfeel: Heavy, viscous.

Palate: Follows the nose - strong malted barley influence, accompanied by some fruit (heavy on the orange) and farm notes (hay and straw). Dries out at the end of the development. Doesn't change much with water.

Finish: Sweetish oak and light smoke. Lingers quite some time.

Verdict: If this is a young Glen Ord, then I would be interested to try a 12- or 15-year version of this. Malty, fruity, a little smoky, this is quite good, easy to drink, and
