Glentauchers 19 Year (SMWS 19.63 "You're On My Mind")

First off, thank you to Linh Do for sending me this sample after I got furloughed. It was amazingly thoughtful and I really appreciated it.

Here are the official notes:

Fruits of the forest, tropical fruit salad, banana toffee and a deep filled apple and sultana pie on the nose made this a real pleasure at full-strength. So did the taste, which was mouth filling, a lovely fruity sweetness of ripe mangoes and papayas as well as peach juice with a delicate, yet assured lemon whipped cream frosting. A tiny drop of water opened up a fresh coconut just collected on the beach. Next came blueberry swirls and apricot yoghurt, while on the palate fruity lychee jelly cream puffs and lychee rose cake roll about with fresh raspberries.

Nose: Huge display of fruit and flowers on the nose. A really stunning opening right out of the gate - apples, green grapes, pineapple, lychee, coconut flan. Very sweet, with a floral halo around it all. Underneath are hints of vanilla, baking spices, and wood tannins.

Mouthfeel: Oily, medium viscosity.

Palate: The flavors occur in slices - first I get malted barley and barley sugar; a big whirlpool of alcohol; then apples, cherries, and some tropical fruit (pineapple, mango); then wood and warming spices (cinnamon). It's much drier on the tongue than the nose would imply.

Finish: Brief but intense - cherries, wood, and baking spices (cloves) dry up any lingering sweetness and leave a metallic puckering sensation behind.

Verdict: Really a good expression of Glentauchers - I find it really interesting how the sweet sweet nose is mixed with woody dryness on the palate, and then the sweetness is vacuumed away and leaves baking spice behind on the finish. It's a real trip to behold.
