Bruichladdich The Organic Barley 2009

Another addition to my Bruichladdich reviews: The Organic Barley 2009! I almost bought another Bere Barley - it's so so good - but I wanted to expand the blog, try something new So here we go.

Bottled at 50% ABV (thank you, Bruichladdich), made with local, organically grown barley (from Midcoul Farms, Dalcross), the Organic Barley 2009 is about 8 years old, matured in ex-bourbon and ex-Tennessee whisky barrels. Let's see how it tastes:

Nose: How rich, yet how delicate!! Barley sugars ... grape skins ... vanilla ... butter ... peach. Salt, too: it's coastal. Of course: unpeated. It's delicious on the nose.

Mouthfeel: Medium-heavy. Oily as hell.

Palate: Grassy, buttery. Some grape skin, like the nose. Orange pith. Apple seeds (bitter). A little nutty. A little meaty. Honey, so much honey. Really nice, delectable. Compares to the Bere Barley, directly: but a bit sweeter, a bit softer, more delicate, perhaps a bit less complex.

Finish: Malted barley. Oak. Salt and pepper. Quite nice, medium length.

Verdict: This is great. Second only to the almighty Bere Barley. Sweet, meaty, interesting. Buy this. Another worthy Bruichladdich release. Mmmmmm, yummy.
