Springbank 12 Year Cask Strength (2019 release)

Springbank is a particular favorite of Scotch lovers, and is regarded to have some of the highest standards in the business. So I'm quite jazzed to try this sample of the cask strength 12 year.

Nose: Bacon, smoked meats, smoked cheese, charcoal. Intensely savory. After time in the glass, and a little water, sherry notes come out - nutty notes, especially, along with the requisite boozy raisins. Chalky. Desert petrichor - creosote. This hits above its weight class - it noses way older than a 12 year.

Mouthfeel:  Medium.

Palate: Whoa, what was that? The traditional diesel fumes, sure, but ... a lot more. A massive pile of dried fruit, rum raisins, Turkish Delight, black licorice, blackened toast, ginger... much more. New things with every sip. Very complex.

Finish: Oak, dried fruit, smoke linger and intertwine deep into the distance. Great finish.

Verdict: This is a VERY interesting Scotch whisky. The nose, palate, and finish are all fantastic in their own way, and also together. I'm deeply impressed. I've had the 10 year Springbank quite a few times, but this is on another level. Highly, highly recommended.
