Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie 20/181 (NAS)

I've taken quite a liking to Bruichladdich. I really enjoyed their Port Charlotte 10 Year, as well as their Rockside Farm, and their Islay Barley (which was both challenging and rewarding). I once had The Classic Laddie when it was a 10 year age statement.

Now it's No Age Statement, but still interesting. Coming from a wide range of casks (this was bottle 20/181, which came from majority ex-bourbon (first fill), with a minority ex-sherry, ex-Sauternes, ex-Muscat, ex-Manseng, ex-French oak, ex-Merlot, ex-Tempranillo, with stated ages in the ~7 year age range), this is always bottled at a very robust 50% ABV (grateful sigh), and is never chill filtered or colored. Let's see how the Scottish Barley comes through here in The Classic Laddie:

Nose: Butter. Rich, creamy butter. Rich malted grain. Honey. White wine. Straw. Salt. Smoke?

Mouthfeel: Extremely viscous.

Palate: Delicious and grassy. Green freshly mowed grass. Lemon. Straw. Honey. White wine. Salt. Heather. Everything is very pure and very tasty.

Finish: Light smoke, oak, grass, straw... a very nice finish.

Verdict: Absolutely delicious. The nose and palate are so perfectly integrated. I loved this! For an unpeated whisky, this has surprisingly earthy depth - a series of deep, very rich, complex flavors. Delicious stuff. Nice work, Bruichladdich. I may actually prefer this to the heavily peated Port Charlotte line...
