Another uncommon Miltdonduff (think: Chivas Regal) bottling from Blackadder, this time a 10 year with a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask finish. Unsure how long the finish is - safe to guess 1-2 years. Bottled at 57.1% ABV, and zero filtration of even the most basic variety.
The other Miltonduff from Blackadder I had was so lovely, I bought this the moment it went on sale. Plus I love sherried whiskies, so it's a win-win proposition. Yet another Dram Hunter selection from the thus far impeccable Raj Sabharwal. Let's dig in:
Nose: On first scent, I get a lot of buttery PX sherry: nuts, golden raisins, stewed plums, brown sugar, young leather, chocolate/brownies, and alcohol/ethanol. After some time to settle, I get a distinct black tea note, twigs/wood, more leather, and roasted almonds.
With a splash of water: Stays much the same on the nose, becomes perhaps a hair earthier.
Mouthfeel: Medium-to-thick, chewy.
Palate: Lovely - just lovely. A really balanced presentation between bourbon (vanilla, pepper, wood, caramel, lots of honey), and sherry (leather, brown sugar, nuts, strong notes of sticky raisins). Walks a fine line but makes it out the other side successfully.
With a touch of water: Perhaps leans a little bit more towards the bourbon side - rich honey and wood dominate.
Finish: Wood, pepper, leather, brown sugar, chocolate, and grapes.
Verdict: Just a lovely whisky. Sweet, nutty, chocolatey, with dry earthy elements to balance the rest out: endlessly sippable. Highly recommended if you find it on a shelf.
