Glen Moray 14 Year (SMWS 35.277 "Waffle Stacking Ecstasy")

Another Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) bottling of a rather underrated distillery, Glen Moray. The last bottle I had was most interesting, even if it wasn't quite my cup of tea (or scones, as the case may be). But this one got rave reviews during the release video (shout out to Jenna Elie), and I'm super curious. It's aged 14 years in a refill ex-bourbon hogshead, and bottled at 53.7% ABV. Nicknamed "Waffle Stacking Ecstasy." Let's see what Glen Moray and SMWS have for us today:

Nose: A REALLY attractive, floral nose, full of pear, marzipan, honey, white grapes, ginger, and a gentle perfume.

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel.

Palate: Carries straight over from the nose - sugary stewed pears, cinnamon, white grapes, lots of ginger, rich, rich honey. Beautiful palate. No wonder Glen Moray (bottle code 35) has such a reputation at SMWS.

Finish: Surprisingly long, the tight-grained cask wood carries on quite a while.

Verdict: As far as "straightforward" bottles go (non-kooky) in the SMWS, this is my favorite so far, even more than the BenRiach I just had, or the Tomintoul from a couple months ago. This is absolutely delicious stuff, and worth seeking out on the secondary market.
